WEEN is my current favorite thing ever. the band was formed in the 80s in New Hope, Pennsylvania, US, by one DEAN WEEN (real name Mickey Melchiondo, guitar soloist) and one GENE WEEN (real name Aaron Freeman, vocalist and guitar). they met in their typing class, and wrote the word WEEN on a typewriter, a mixture of "wuss" and "penis," which they felt would fit the music they'd be making. they also wrote a dozen-ish song titles and reverse engineered them when they got home, using an electric guitar and an incomplete drum set.
WEEN is a very stupid band. not stupid like bad stupid, but in the way that most of their discography is goofy, edgy songs. their first three albums, for example, are widely referred to as THE BROWN TRILOGY, "brown" being a term to describe the band's songs that are "not right, but wrong in a good way." essentially, a lot of WEEN music is "so bad it's good."
> GODWEENSATAN, their first record is best described as brown garage rock. there's a lot of screaming, and the album is just very obnoxious, like it's some some awful demo tape made by some teenagers in 3 days. but, as all of Ween is, it's awful in the best way possible.
